Tennessee Association of Dance Educational Activities

Educational Activities

Annually the Association produces a statewide conference featuring renowned master teachers in varied disciplines. Periodic regional workshops designed with a specific focus, and a biannual professional development summit are offered.

The Association interacts with appropriate persons and organizations in an ongoing effort to design and implement dance education programs to benefit Tennessee's general public. The Association developed the K-12 dance curriculum, approved by the State Board of Education for use in Tennessee's public school system, and was instrumental in developing state licensure criteria for teachers of dance in the public schools. Efforts to increase the availability of dance in education are ongoing.

Informational brochures on a variety of dance education topics are available from the organization. Current titles include:

  • How to Choose a Dance Teacher: A Guide for Parents and Students
  • A Layman's Guide to Enjoying Dance Performances
  • Dance in Education: A Position Paper.
